Energizing Great Plans and Dreams

My first full year as President has been a wonderful experience. My family and I are grateful for the expressions of friendship and support from so many members of the Lafayette community.

I have been fortunate to travel the country, meeting with alumni at gatherings from Boston to Coral Gables, from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C., and many places in between. Most recently, I experienced first-hand the warm family collegiality of commencement with our 549 graduates and their parents, and more than 1,700 of our returning alumni at reunion.

Looking through the pages of this exciting new issue of Lafayette Alumni News was a powerful way for me to reconnect with the life of the College during my first year and the many accomplishments of our faculty, students, and alumni. It reminded me that everyone here is working to make for a better learning environment for our students. We engage and support our students as a way of making this environment work better. It is what brought me here.

I am reminded of what Lafayette trustee J. Peter Simon ’75, said to us earlier this year at a scholarship recognition dinner: This is the business that we are in. We energize great plans and dreams. Can you imagine a more valuable use of our resources?

I can’t. And I’m so happy, and proud, to be part of it.
