Memorial Service Announced for Kay Bergethon, Widow of Lafayette’s 12th President

A memorial service honoring Kay Bergethon, wife of the late K. Roald Bergethon, Lafayette’s president from 1958 to 1978, will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, May 7, in Colton Chapel, followed by a reception from 4-5:30 p.m. in the Faculty Dining Room, Marquis Hall.

Kay Bergethon died Friday, March 26, at the home of her son Peter in Dover, Mass. She was an esteemed First Lady of the College during Roald Bergethon’s administration as Lafayette’s 12th president. In 1978 she received an honorary degree from Lafayette, as did her husband, who died in 2004.

As requested by the family, contributions may be made to the Katherine L. and K. Roald Bergethon Fund for Financial Aid, c/o Lafayette College, 307 Markle Hall, Easton, PA 18042.

Messages may be sent to the family care of Dr. Peter R. Bergethon, 5 Bretton Road, Dover, MA 02030-2503.
