Joelle Neilson ’12 (Philadelphia, Pa.) took first place in both the triple and long jump at the Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championships Feb. 17-19 at Bucknell University. She was named Female Field Performer of the Meet.

Neilson, who was also Patriot League Champion in the triple jump during the 2010-11 outdoor track and field season, is an Indoor and Outdoor All-Conference athlete in the long jump, the Lafayette record holder in indoor long and triple jump and outdoor triple jump, and has been named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.

An engineering studies major, Neilson was part of a student and faculty team that worked to develop sustainable water and sanitation systems in rural Honduras and was a summer intern for Clark Construction in Washington, D.C., under the guidance of Curt Allen ’79, vice president of operations. He is also co-president of the Minority Scientist and Engineers Society and was the historian for the Association of Black Collegians.

After graduating, Neilson hopes to work for a construction company before possibly attending graduate school for engineering and business.
