Callers may reach Lafayette’s Office of Public Safety by dialing (610) 253-3467 during a scheduled campus-wide outage of the College’s phone system from 6 p.m. to midnight this Friday, July 27. This number may be used for both non-emergency and emergency calls. The Office of Public Safety, located on the ground floor of Marquis Hall, is staffed 24/7 every day of the year.
The usual numbers for public safety are (610) 330-5330, and, in case of emergency, (610) 330-4444.
The phone outage will not be continuous throughout the scheduled time, but there will be periodic interruptions as Information Technology Services performs upgrades to integrate the current phone system with a new telecommunications platform called Unified Communications.
The new platform’s advanced collaborative features include voice and video calls, chat, presence, as well as integration with the campus directory and other enterprise applications. The platform is provided by eZuce, developers of an open-source Voice Over IP (VoIP) system. Through this effort ITS will strengthen the College’s commitment to enhance communication, facilitate collaborations, and build community.
