Over the weekend, more than 120 students, faculty, and staff volunteered for service projects throughout the Easton community during the annual Make a Difference Day.

“I think it is incredibly important for Lafayette students to know and appreciate the fact that they are citizens of Easton when they step foot on this campus,” says organizer Morgan West ’13 (Huntington Beach, Calif.). “I am lucky to be surrounded by people who are wholly concerned about becoming active citizens and participants in the Easton community.”
Hosted by the Landis Community Outreach Center, the day’s projects benefited the Center for Animal Health and Welfare, the Phillipsburg Shade Tree Commission, Easton’s Weed and Seed Sunflower Garden, Safe Harbor homeless shelter, Easton’s Urban Farm, and the West Ward Neighborhood Partnership. The work varied from painting, to landscaping, to light construction.
“I really enjoyed the experience,” says volunteer Kelly Carpency ’16 (Allentown, Pa.). “It was humbling to see how much the people in Easton really appreciated the simple projects we worked on.”
The Landis Center hosts dozens of programs and organizations dedicated to helping local, national, and international communities. Volunteer opportunities include Alternative School Break, Hunger and Homelessness Week, America Reads America Counts, Make a Difference Day, Best Buddies, Literacy Day, Kids in the Community, Pre-Orientation Service Program, Lafapalooza: Lafayette’s National Day of Service, and many others.
Results from NSSE can provide prospective students with insights into how they might learn and develop at a given college.
