Due to the campus-wide power outage from Hurricane Sandy, it appeared as if College Theater might have to cancel its production of Noises Off, which was set to open Oct. 31.
But when the power came back Nov. 2, the show went on. Not only did the students perform to standing ovations, but the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival recognized the production with certificates of merit for directing to Michael O’Neill, associate professor of English and director of theater, technical direction to Zach Tysinger, and stage management to Marybeth O’Connor ’15. For their performances in the play, Nikelia Haines ’15 and Brandi Porter ’13 were nominated for the festival’s Irene Ryan Acting Competition, and Patrick Grundy ’15 and Devon Thorsell ’13 were selected as alternates.

Noises Off, written by Michael Frayn, is a play within a play. A summary: “A hilarious fiasco of flubbed lines and missed cues plague the rehearsal and run of a mindless sex farce, with the onstage antics compounded by offstage romantic turmoil, until utter chaos, powered by nonstop laughter, reigns supreme.”
