Reunion headquarters opened today in Pfenning Alumni Center to welcome back returning alumni, especially those in class years ending in “3” and “8.”
The weekend is full of events planned for catching up with old friends, reliving the nostalgia of college days, and creating new memories to treasure for years to come.
Many alumni attended the kickoff special feature this year—Lafayette’s commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. Diane Windham Shaw, College archivist, spoke about Lafayette during the Civil War, and Forrest “Lou” Schaffer ’55 led a discussion about Professor Ed Coddington and his book, The Gettysburg Campaign: A Study in Command. The keynote lecture was given by James M. McPherson, Civil War historian and Davis ’86 Professor Emeritus of United States History at Princeton University. About 15 of Coddington’s students were on hand for the event. The lecture was sponsored by Allan Johnson Jr. ’59 in honor of his great-great-grandfather who died at Gettysburg.
The welcome convocation and State of the College address by President Daniel H. Weiss will be held 8 p.m. tonight in Marquis Hall, followed by step-singing in front of old Pardee.
