Lafayette gives students opportunities to learn from prominent leaders about issues of importance in our nation and the world. Often campus speakers also spend time with students in sessions that encourage them to grasp key ideas in new ways and challenge them to form and discuss their own views. Major speakers in 2013 included President Jimmy Carter; primatologist and conservationist Jane Goodall; and Tony Blair, former prime minister of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Speakers have included feminist activist Gloria Steinem, Civil War scholar James McPherson, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Taylor Branch, and Anne-Marie Slaughter, first woman to serve as director of policy planning for the U.S. State Department.Read articles about authors and academia speakers
