Matt Grandon ’12
“Besides the incredible academic and social opportunities, I chose Lafayette because of the sense of community it demonstrated. The students, professors, and staff with whom I met while taking tours, attending info sessions, and sitting in on classes are the most dedicated, engaging, and supportive group of individuals.”
Passionate about helping his fellow students have a great college experience, Matt Grandon ’12 became Student Government president and an orientation leader, and he helped create Lafayette’s First-Year Peer Advising Program. Coordinating his efforts with administrators, Matt developed the program’s overall framework and goals and created a training program for peer advisers, among other work. Matt is proud of what the program is accomplishing, and he learned a lot about higher education through bringing his ideas to fruition.
His leadership skills have earned him recognition. He was among 50 college and graduate students in the world selected to participate in the Hesselbein Global Academy for Student Leadership and Civic Engagement’s Leadership Summit in Pittsburgh in July 2011.
Matt has begun work on his joint honors thesis in history and Spanish, which focuses on the history of higher education within the United States and South America. He is also pursuing an independent study of the poetry of Rosalía de Castro, a Spanish feminist poet of the 19th century.
