When Do I Take The Law School Admission Test (LSAT)?

The Law School Admission Test is a half-day standardized test required for admission to all ABA-approved law schools, most Canadian law schools, and many non-ABA-approved law schools. It provides a standard measure of acquired reading and verbal reasoning skills that law schools can use as one of several factors in assessing applicants. The test is administered four times a year at hundreds of locations around the world. Many law schools require that the LSAT be taken by December for admission the following fall. Students normally take the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) just after their junior year in the month of June or at the start of their senior year in October. To maximize their choice of law schools, optimal performance on the LSAT is critical. Students are encouraged to take the LSAT only when they have prepared for it and as early as possible in the law school application process.

Students may register for the LSAT online (www.lsac.org), by telephone or regular mail. Test dates are scheduled on Saturdays with alternate dates for Saturday Sabbath observers (www.lsac.org):
