Academic Resource Center

The center provides workshops, coordinates help sessions, trains students to serve as peer tutors, and informs students about how to arrange for a tutor.

Workshop Topics
Time Management
Notetaking
Reading
Exam Preparation
Help Sessions
A schedule of help sessions for specific academic areas is published at the beginning of each semester. Students are encouraged to:
  • attend class regularly
  • use effective study habits
  • seek assistance from their instructors
  • attend help sessions
  • choose an academic support service if needed.
Tutors
Students may become a paid tutor upon the recommendation of a faculty member. They attend an orientation session and sign up for the number of hours they would like to tutor.

Students who have practiced good study habits and have tried help sessions but still need additional assistance may sign up for a screening appointment at the center. They are given the name of their tutor at that time and are responsible for contacting them to set up a regular time and place to meet.

The center is sponsored by the Office of the Dean of the College.
