Dear Prospective Student:
We are pleased to learn of your interest in Lafayette College and are taking this opportunity to inform you of our procedures for admission to the class of 2013. Lafayette exclusively uses The Common Application. You can access the application and Lafayette’s required supplement at http://www.commonapp.org/. If you would like a paper copy of The Common Application, please call our office at (610) 330-5100, or send an email request to admissions@lafayette.edu.
Enclosed you will find detailed instructions regarding the completion of our application, as well as copies of Lafayette’s supplement and our Early Decision brochure. Detailed information regarding Lafayette’s financial aid policies and procedures for the upcoming academic year will be available on our website http://www.lafayette.edu/admissions/finaid before the start of classes. If you would like a printed copy of our financial aid brochure, please contact us at the same phone number or email referenced above. The updated brochure will be available in late August.
Be sure to start working on this application as soon as possible, giving yourself plenty of time to ensure thorough completion. Your portion of the application and the $60 application fee may be submitted now so that we can establish a file for the many supporting documents which will arrive separately over the coming weeks and months. The application deadline is January 1, 2009.
The evaluation of your credentials will focus on the quality of courses you have taken over your four years of high school, grades, standardized test scores, letters of recommendation, your essay, extracurricular activities, and personal qualities. Use your essay as an opportunity to share with the admissions committee what you consider most important about yourself.
If you have not yet visited the Lafayette campus, we strongly urge you to do so. Interviews are available on campus until December 28. Integral to the campus visit is the opportunity to meet our students, attend classes, talk with professors, experience campus life, and gain a greater understanding of the Lafayette Experience. With appropriate notice, we shall be pleased to arrange a visit for you.
Please feel free to call upon any member of my staff or me during the coming year, as important questions arise. We are most eager to learn as much as we can about you and to help you organize and complete the college admissions process. Best wishes for a successful completion of your senior year.
Sincerely,
Carol A. Rowlands
Director of Admissions
