B7. Semicolons

b7.1. Use semicolons to join independent clauses when a coordinating conjunction is not present (Laura is my cousin; she's filled with secrets).

b7.2. Use semicolons to separate elements of a series when individual segments of the series require commas (The area was noteworthy for its pines, cedars, and Douglas firs; several species of birds including ravens, owls, and mynahs; and a roaring waterfall).
