General Usage Questions

C2. Asian/Oriental

c2.1. Always use the term Asian or Asian American in text when referring to a person. (If a specific nationality is involved, use that instead of either: Japanese, Thai.) Oriental may be used in reference to an inanimate object (most notably rugs or cuisine); even that usage, however, is fast going the way of the Raj, and for precisely the same reason. (Note that 10 years ago, one flew on Northwest Orient Airlines.)
