IDA SINKEVIC'S SPECIAL INTERESTS include ancient, Byzantine, medieval, Islamic, Eskimo, and pre-Columbian art. She is the author of the book The Church of St. Panteleimon at Nerezi: Architecture, Programme, Patronage, published in 2000 by Ludwig Reichert Verlag, Weisbaden, Germany, and articles on Byzantine art and architecture. She has delivered papers and chaired sessions at conferences on Slavic, Byzantine, classical, and medieval studies.

She developed and teaches the First-Year Seminar "Monuments," which examines the pyramids at Giza, the Parthenon, Chartres Cathedral, Brunelleschi's dome for Florence Cathedral, and the Empire State Building in their historical, cultural, and technological contexts and is a member of the faculty of the interdisciplinary Russian and East European Studies program.

Sinkevic has advised students in more than 20 independent studies and honor theses. Topics have ranged from Byzantine iconography to analysis of contemporary Russian architecture. Most recently, she advised Mousam Kayastha '01 on an architectural and artistic analysis of Hindu and Buddhist temples in Nepal.

A member of the Lafayette faculty since 1994, Sinkevic has been the recipient of two Lafayette research fellowships.
