Lafayette Campus News (www.lafayette.edu), April 4, 2007 — David Shulman, associate professor of anthropology and sociology, was interviewed recently about his latest book From Hire to Liar: The Role of Deception in the Workplace for National Public Radio’s Morning Edition. The taped interview with host Steve Inskeep aired today and can be heard, along with a transcript and excerpt of the book, here.
Released in December by Cornell University Press, the book explores how everyday lies in the workplace impact ethics, the administration of work, and productivity. It argues that deception is a vital aspect of the workplace and actually helps maintain worker autonomy and harmony, and an efficient workflow.
The book has received a great deal of media coverage including a nationally syndicated Associated Press business column. It has also been featured in the Miami Herald, the Chicago Tribune, the Chronicle of Higher Education, and the London Guardian and Financial Times.
