I had the opportunity to speak with H. David Moore Jr. ’53 this past week about his work as chairman for his class reunion committee and the upcoming 55th reunion. Moore says that a main goal for the committee is to get as many classmates back to Lafayette as possible and to enjoy the friendships that have been nurtured over the years.

“I care a great deal about the College, the Class of 1953, and the experience I had at Lafayette. And even at 76, it really hasn’t diminished,” he says.

Moore says one of the ways the committee is trying to get classmates back to Lafayette for Reunion is by sending out a transcript of former Lafayette President Ralph Cooper Hutchison’s address to the student body from when Moore and his classmates were students. “We included a copy of that to jog our memories about what it was like when we graduated from college and what we had to look forward to,” Moore says.

He adds that while there’s still a lot to do in preparation for Reunion, the class has many supportive people who are willing to help contact their friends and classmates.

“When you reach a certain time in your life, it’s an especially wonderful experience to get together and appreciate [each other] and talk about what the College is doing today and our experiences,” says Moore. “It’s easy to remember those experiences when you’re back on campus.”

While Moore says that some of the events for the Class of 1953’s reunion are still in the works, alumni can look forward to a class dinner on Saturday evening at the Chateau Chavaniac.

When I asked Moore to tell me about some of his fondest memories of Lafayette Reunions, he spoke to me about the class’ 50th reunion. “Although I attended a number [of Reunions], the 50th is really a time to look back and assess all the great things about the College. You really begin to appreciate the College and all the positive things that have come from Lafayette,” he says.

Moore loves being able to share some of his memories with son Dan Moore ’75. “It’s about as fine a small college as I could recommend,” Moore says. He adds that he has a number of grandchildren and he’s anxious to get several of them to Lafayette.
