Lafayette Campus News (www.lafayette.edu), February 7, 2002 — William Carpenter, assistant professor of English, will speak on "Examining Writers' Styles with the Use of Computers, Word Processors, and Hypertext" 12:15 p.m. today in Skillman Library room 217.
The talk is free and open to the public. Lunch will be provided.
The lecture covers Carpenter's implementation of an Integrating Computing into the Curriculum grant. Last semester, he used computer- and Web-based components to help his Advanced Writing students analyze their own writing styles. The hypertext and electronic portfolio assignments that were developed not only helped students improve their linguistic and revision skills, but facilitated conversations about definitions of literacy, linguistic identity, and computer access.
Integrating Computing into the Curriculum grants are administered by the Computing Services Advisory Committee. To learn more about the program, contact Robert Duncan, systems librarian, at x5156 or duncanr@lafayette.edu.
