EASTON, Pa.(www.lafayette.edu), August 29, 2007 — The campus community is going to get creative this weekend, as music, dance, art, activities, food, and drink highlights the sixth annual Block pARTy beginning at 4 p.m. Sept. 1 on Parsons Street between Hamilton and McCartney streets.

A wide range of events will take place leading up to the 6 p.m. kickoff of the football game against Marist College. This will be Lafayette’s first home night game.

To accommodate the pARTy, the 600 block of Parsons will be closed to traffic with no parking the day of the event.

There will be performances by Cadence, Chorduroys, Soulfege, Synchromation, the Pep Band, the cheerleaders, Saint Cloud (a student band), and a student gospel group.

Food will be offered by the Quadrant Coffeehouse, Forks Mediterranean Deli, Fat Daddy’s Southern Bar-B-Q, and Dining Services. Meals are free to students with ID until 5:45 p.m. Cash is also accepted.

Student organizations will present a wide variety of interactive art-related and creative activities free of charge. Student organizations with displays are Arts Society, Hispanic Society of Lafayette (HSL), Questioning Established Sexual Taboos (QuEST), Student Movement Against Cancer (SMAC), Reeder House, Engineers without Borders (EWB), WJRH College Radio, International Students Association (ISA), Actuary Club, Association of Lafayette Feminists (ALF), German Club, Student Government, Lafayette Activities Forum (LAF), Pre-Orientation Service Program (POSP), Amnesty International, Marquis Literary Magazine, Japanese Interest Floor, Africans Creating African Consciousness and Interest Abroad (ACACIA), Five Actors in Search of a Director (FASAD), Alternative School Break (ASB), Marquis Players, Foundation of the Awareness and Alleviation of Poverty (FAAP), French Club, NIA (a multicultural women's organization), and the Counseling Center.

Art will also be displayed from the Experimental Printmaking Institute as well as works by biology major Kathryn Hamerslag ’08 (Martinsville, N.J.), art major Jacquelyn Molendyke ’10 (West Chester, Pa.), English and art major Karen Ruggles ’08 (Easton, Pa.), psychology and philosophy major Sergey Toshinskey ’08 (Obninsk Kaluga Regio, Russia), and electrical and computer engineering major Ben Towne ’09 (Litchfield, N.H.).

The block pARTy is sponsored by the Office of the Dean of Students, Lafayette Intercultural Network Council, Office of Recreation Services, and the Arts Society, with support from the Department of Athletics, Maroon Club, and the Office of Residence Life. The organizers would also like to thank the City of Easton, Plant Operations, Williams Center for the Arts, Office of Athletic Communications and Promotions, Student Government, and the residents of Parsons Street.
