Strategic Planning Update

  On the Web

The first phase of Lafayette’s strategic planning process is nearing completion. The nine sub-committees of the Strategic Planning Steering Committee (SPSC) have been meeting regularly since September and have been receiving suggestions, ideas and proposals from members of the faculty and staff as well as many other groups including alumni, trustees, and students.

Based on their own ideas and the input they have received, the sub-committees are beginning to develop recommendations that will serve as inputs to the strategic plan:

  • ACCESS/DIVERSITY
Addressing issues related to access and diversity at Lafayette, both from an admissions and campus culture standpoint.
  • THE ARTS
Exploring how the arts can play an enhanced role in the life of the campus and its community.
  • CURRICULUM
Reviewing significant components of Lafayette’s curriculum including, but not limited to: general education requirements (including FYS, VAST, and the role of the College Writing Program), A.B. and B.S. engineering curricula, and several interdisciplinary programs.
  • EASTON
Developing proposals for Lafayette’s relationship with the City of Easton.
  • FACUTLY
Formulating strategies for acquiring, developing, and retaining outstanding teachers and productive scholars.
  • GLOBAL ISSUES
Working to align Lafayette’s offerings with the shape of the world we live in and the world we expect to see over the next generation, and faculty staffing.
  • INFORMATION SERVICES
Focusing on information access and use, special collections, data infrastructure, and tools for communication and collaboration.
  • LIFE SCIENCES
Examining the life sciences broadly and hopes to develop exciting and creative new programs in this important field.
  • STUDENT EXPERIENCE
Formulating recommendations to create a ubiquitous campus-learning environment.
A strategic planning web site, linked to the Lafayette homepage, www.lafayette.edu, has been created to serve a valuable communications role as the planning process moves through its next phases between now and October.

President Weiss encourages feedback from all members of the Lafayette community on the strategic planning process. Comments can be made to President Weiss (weissd@lafayette.edu).
