Chambers Honor College

President Daniel Weiss accepted the Two Rivers Area Chamber of Commerce’s Community Service Award on behalf of the College at TRACC’s annual meeting June 5. The award recognized Lafayette’s commitment to Easton and surrounding communities.

“Lafayette has made a great financial commitment to the area, developed a gateway into downtown Easton, renovated buildings and the streetscape, and shown a genuine concern for the quality of life of the residents that live in the community,” said TRACC’s Bev Dalrymple. “The College has reached out and shown it is part of the larger community, and the chamber is proud to award the 2007 Community Service Award to Lafayette.”

TRACC is one of several regional councils of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce. In November GLVCC honored Lafayette with a Community Partner award in recognition of the College’s collaborations with Easton, including its investment in downtown revitalization.

The College views its horizon of partnership with the city “not in terms of next year or the year after, but in decades and centuries,” Weiss said in accepting the award. “It is immensely gratifying for Lafayette to be honored in this way because it demonstrates that we are making important— and widely recognized—progress in advancing our vision of Lafayette as a leading community partner.”

He noted that Lafayette has invested more than $9 million to acquire and beautify properties in the North Third St. area at the base of College Hill, the gateway to campus from downtown Easton and Route 22, and is formulating plans for continuing investment and development in the area.
