High Achievement

Several students and recent graduates added their names this year to the roster of Lafayette recipients of prestigious fellowships and scholarships for postgraduate and undergraduate study.

Lisa Lovallo ’07 and Briana Niblick ’06 were awarded Fulbright grants for research abroad. Lovallo, a double major in Spanish and economics & business, will study in Mexico through a Fulbright-Garcia Robles Binational Business Grant. Niblick, who earned a B.S. in civil engineering and A.B. with a major in German, will do research in Vienna.

Danielle Bero ’07 (individualized major in creative media and social justice) and Adam Callaghan ’07 (English and German) received Fulbright English-language teaching assistantships in Indonesia and Germany, respectively.

Julie Phelan ’05 (psychology and art) was awarded a Jacob K. Javits Fellowship from the U.S. Department of Education to support her research at Rutgers University, where she is pursuing a Ph.D. in social psychology.

Nikolce Gorevski ’07 (chemical engineering) received a graduate fellowship from Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society, and will pursue a doctorate in chemical engineering at Princeton University.

Patrick Zboray ’07 (economics and business) was awarded a junior fellowship by the American Academy of Political and Social Science to continue research he began in an honors thesis.

Jaryd Freedman ’08 (biochemistry) received a Goldwater Scholarship, the premier undergraduate award of its type in math, science, and engineering. Lafayette ranks first among the nation’s top liberal arts colleges in the number of Goldwaters in the last six years (14). Scott Crown ’08 (chemical engineering) received honorable mention.

Clark Britan ’08 (mechanical engineering) was awarded a fellowship by the National Institute of Standards and Technology for summer study at the NIST Manufacturing Engineering Laboratory, Gaithersburg, Md.

Felix Forster ’09 (mathematics-economics) received a fellowship from Humanity in Action to study human rights issues in Amsterdam this summer.
