ALUMNI IN FOCUS
Bennett ’78 Finds
Many Ways to Give Back
After having such a great experience at Lafayette, Meg
Bennett ’78 feels compelled to give back any way she can. She began
by helping select Marquis Scholars, served on the young alumni chapter-
planning group, and then worked as an admissions representative.
“After a few years of not doing much, I began to help plan events
for my local chapter,” she adds.
Bennett is treasurer of the Greater Boston Chapter. She also has served on Lafayette Leadership Council and is in her third year as an alumni representative on the Alumni Affairs
and Development Committee.
“Right now our chapter is working hard to try out different kinds of events that are all aimed at finding ways to bring in alumni. We want to help more alumni in our area reconnect with the College,” she says.
Last fall, her dedication as an alumni chapter officer earned Bennett the William E. Greenip Jr. ’44 Award.
The biology graduate is first vice president for Mellon Financial, running a team of private bankers who
handle loans to individuals with high net worth. She was pleased to host
a party for outgoing President Arthur J. Rothkopf ’55 in Mellon’s
corporate dining room.
Taking the job at Mellon was a natural development for Bennett,
whose father was a banker.
Relationships were an important part of her time at Lafayette. She remembers (now former) swimming coach Bill Lawson as the person
who kept her connected to the College.
