Galaxy Mapping

With Lyle Hoffman, professor of physics, Adeel Altaf ’06 and Josh Goldstein ’07 used the world’s most advanced radio telescope to study NGC 2903, a neighboring galaxy to the Milky Way, and map its hydrogen clouds.

Hoffman is part of an international team of astronomers and scientists from 29 institutions around the world who are using the Arecibo telescope in Puerto Rico to examine hydrogen gas clouds in galaxies, seeking to learn more about how galaxies form and better understand their composition.
