Presenting Women’s Studies
Four students presented their research at the annual women’s studies conference sponsored by LVAIC, the Lehigh Valley Association of Independent Colleges.
The topic for Briana Niblick ’06, who earned a B.S. in civil engineering and an A.B. with a major in German, was “Feminist Spoken Word: Tales of Gender and Justice.” Nangula Shejavali ’06, an international affairs and Africana studies graduate, presented a critical analysis of Federico Garcia Lorca’s play La Casa de Bernada Alba. Tacie Steidel ’06, an American studies graduate, spoke on “girl culture” among women at small, private colleges. Kirby Waldinger ’07, a major in Spanish and English, looked at women as consumers in today’s society.
“Because women’s studies is interdisciplinary, the conference provides an usually rich opportunity for exchanging viewpoints and perspectives,” says Carolynn Van Dyke, March Professor of English.
