Engaged by Lafayette to help develop a vision and plan for the College’s properties in the North Third St. campus gateway area, RTKL Associates included interested parties in brainstorming/discussion sessions and will present recommendations to the Board of Trustees.

In addition to North Third St., the Bushkill Creek Corridor project, a joint College/city effort, includes improvements to former industrial properties on North 13th Street and the addition of trails along the Bushkill Creek.

A plan, commissioned by Easton, by Wallace, Roberts & Todd includes recommendations for revitalizing the central business district and Bushkill Creek corridor. The College is a major participant. Lafayette is cited as one of the city’s major advantages, along with a strategic location at a major gateway to Pennsylvania, with easy access to the New York City/northern New Jersey market; a magnificent natural setting; established visitor attractions; a dedicated city administration, professional staff, and citizens working to make Easton a better place; and a rich heritage, including an historic downtown.

Cosponsored by the College, “First Weekend Easton/Phillipsburg” brings people together on the first Friday and Saturday of each month for arts events and other attractions, including musical performances, wine tastings, gallery shows, canal-boat rides, artists’ talks, and more.

The world can focus on the newly renovated Fisher Stadium at Fisher Field when Easton and Phillipsburg high schools meet for their 100th football game Thanksgiving Day. The 9 a.m. contest will be televised live on ESPN2.

PHILLIPSBURG

A 449-townhouse complex on the riverfront is seen as a key to Phillipsburg revitalization. Called River View at Delaware Station, it is envisioned as Phase 1 of a project that may include more than 1,000 homes, a major downtown parking facility, commuter transit village, and community college.

A new subdivision plan has opened the way for further development at Phillipsburg Commerce Park, a 388-acre mixed-use site (with 288 acres in Phillipsburg), part of which was home to Ingersoll-Rand. The old IR property is being redeveloped as an industrial park.
