Student Thanks Alumnus
I would like to thank Ned Jesser '39 for the very generous scholarship that was awarded to me in his name. I cannot express how much
I appreciate this and I am truly grateful. Also, I would like to thank Mr. Jesser for taking the time to interview me and for his kind words that helped me get accepted at Lafayette. I send my thanks to
Mr. Jesser for all he has done!

Easton Site to Be Seen
On a recent trip back to Lafayette, I was detoured south of Rt. 22, and came upon a scene that called out to me to stop and see for myself.
I want to share this site because it is one of many points of interest around Lafayette that the majority of old and new alumni might
have missed.
Just over one mile from the
Civil War monument in Centre Square is a real souvenir of the Civil War, three survivors in fact, with the ability to bring us back to some of the thunder and roar of the
battles that now seem so far away. As you cross the free bridge to Phillipsburg, turn right and head south on South Main, cross the railroad bridge and proceed to a triangular small park, you will
be able to muse over three of
the largest mortars used in the
Civil War, and probably ever
used in this country.
These three pieces bear the markings of being cast at Fort Pitt, Pennsylvania. A plaque indicates they were used at the Mississippi River and at the siege of Vicksburg. Fighting words, indeed!
I find myself wondering, how
did they come to find a home back in Phillipsburg? This could be a starting point for some in-depth student research.
Next time you are back on
campus and you have a few moments to spare to lay your hand on an authentic Civil War killing machine, and then to meditate on what you have encountered, here
is a spot worth a visit, with a story well worth the telling for younger generations as well.

Coaching Excellence
I'd like to express my sincere
admiration of the commitment
to excellence and leadership
that Wayne Miller, coach of the Lafayette women's soccer program, displayed to me and my daughter Jillian.
Jillian was recruited by
various outstanding colleges to play soccer. She was torn between Boston University and Lafayette. Through the well-organized recruiting efforts of Miller and
his assistant coach, Tim Herb,
my daughter instantly felt that Lafayette was her number one
choice. Coach Miller provided
an atmosphere far superior to
the other colleges recruiting my
daughter. His ability to display a warm, caring and compassionate
balance for my daughter should be applauded. Academically, financially, and athletically he was very clear
in giving an overall presentation that enables me, as a parent,
to feel completely comfortable with the decision to have my daughter
apply to Lafayette.
As the world is forever changing and choosing the right college for your child remains a difficult task, I forward this letter to you in recognition of the fine job Coach Miller is providing to prospective students.

Weekly Updates on Web
I just wanted to mention that
I'm really enjoying the photos on Lafayette's web site pertaining
to the progress of the construction on Skillman Library!
Any way other photos of the campus' weekly renovations could be posted on the web site?
