Academic Groups

A special character of the Lafayette Experience is the integration of living and learning. Active and hands-on learning experiences are an integral part of courses throughout Lafayette's curriculum. In addition, there are many student organizations that are closely tied to many areas of the academic program including engineering, languages, chemistry, international affairs, and government and law.

For example, you can get involved in making decisions about investments with the six-digit fund managed by the Investment Club or apply to be a participant in the European Union Simulation -- a three-day event in Washington, D.C. each year -- through the International Affairs Club. Many of the groups have a web site where you can find out more.

Academic Honor Societies

Lafayette is among the 10 percent of colleges and universities that shelter a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the oldest and most exclusive honor society in the country. The College also has chapters of three other national honor societies: Alpha Sigma Lambda, (students obtaining a degree on a part-time basis), Sigma Xi (natural sciences), and Tau Beta Pi (engineering).

A number of honor societies that recognize personal achievement in specific fields have chapters at Lafayette (see the list to the right).
