Director, Academic Resource Center
Welcome to Lafayette College! As a first
year student, you are about to explore exciting academic challenges and social opportunities. Higher education is an incredible intellectual journey that you are sure to find exceedingly rewarding. Keep in mind, however, that the transition from high school to college often requires students to modify their current academic behaviors. What may have worked for you in high school may not necessarily bring you academic success in college. While the distinguished faculty at Lafayette is always ready and willing to assist you on your academic journey, the staff of the Academic Resource Center is available to provide additional support.
The Academic Resource Center (ARC), part of the Office of the Dean of the College, provides academic services to enhance student success in an educational environment that can be demanding and challenging. The ARC provides a wide range of services for students including peer tutoring for most courses, programs in time management, study skills, exam preparation and test anxiety. Students are welcome to meet with the professional staff in an individualized setting to attain personalized support for their academic needs, or the ARC staff can provide group workshops for academic departments, residence halls or campus groups. Additionally, the ARC provides academic support for student athletes through programs such as peer mentoring and academic enhancement workshops, and oversees the Supplemental Instruction program which targets historically difficult courses. The ARC also provides academic accommodations for students with disabilities.
Please take the time to browse our website and familiarize yourself with the services provided in the ARC. Be proactive - come in to pay our staff a visit early in the semester to garner yourself with the tools necessary to achieve to your potential. Good luck as you begin this exciting journey!

The Counseling Center
The Counseling Center offers students the opportunity meet with a counselor to define their goals, make decisions, and discover solutions to personal, social, educational and career concerns. All contacts with the Counseling Center are confidential and the services are free. New students who may be feeling homesick or missing friends and family often benefit from talking with a counselor about ways that they can make a smooth transition to college life. The Center also offers students the opportunity to learn strategies to succeed in the classroom and to take a variety of personality and strength-based inventories that can help them improve their relationships and make decisions about majors and careers. All first year students will receive a Counseling Center brochure and wallet cards with tips for managing stress and achieving good emotional health in their orientation packet. We encourage first year students who would like to meet one of the counselors to drop by the Counseling Center on the 2nd Floor of the Bailey Health Center or to give us a call at 610.330.5005.
