Service Opportunities at Lafayette

Lafayette's Landis Community Outreach Center has numerous and diverse programs. You'll easily find one that fits your interests and schedule. During the 2003-04 school year,1,096 students gave 41,299 hours of community service. Lafayette also participates in President Clinton's America Reads/America Counts program, Face Painting providing reading tutors for young children. Approximately 60 positions are available for Federal work-study students to work in schools and after-school tutoring programs.

Along with the Landis Center's director and assistant director, 25 students work part-time in the center, coordinating volunteers with programs, organizing transportation, and handling bookkeeping and accounting. One of the most exciting programs is Alternative School Break (ASB). Each year the ASB Club sends over sixty students to various domestic and international locations for week-long service experiences. Past trips have included Habitat for Humanity in John's Island, South Carolina; Project OpenHand in San Francisco, California; and Camp Coast Care in Long Beach, Mississippi.

You can volunteer for any of the center's programs, or you can work with our special opportunities program coordinator to find a project that's right for you!
