Karen J. Forbes, Ph.D., Director of Counseling
Services
Dr. Forbes first came to Lafayette in 1988 and was appointed Director
in July, 1998 after serving as Assistant Director since 1992. She
earned her B.A. in Psychology from Oberlin College and her M.S. and
Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Florida where
she had a minor in Higher Education. She is a licensed psychologist
in Pennsylvania. Dr. Forbes sees counseling as a collaborative process.
She enjoys helping students to identify and use their existing strengths
to develop solutions for the problems they face. She believes that
counseling should address the influence of social, biological, and
psychological factors.
Timothy J. Silvestri, Ph.D., Coordinator of
Drug and Alcohol Services
Tim Silvestri received his B.A. from Muhlenberg College and
his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from
Lehigh University. Tim is the Coordinator of Drug and Alcohol Services
within the counseling center. His other specialty is multicultural
issues and he is engaged in ongoing research and writing in this
area. Tim believes strongly in the power of relationships to cultivate
change, enhance personal strengths, and reach one's fullest potential.
He views the counseling center as one of many resources at Lafayette
that can aid students to achieve the heights and goals they envision
for themselves.
Billie L. Weiss, Secretary
Billie Weiss majored in marketing at DeSales University and has 10 years
experience in her field. Billie came to Lafayette in 2002 when she served
as an Office Assistant in the Public Safety Department assisting faculty
and students in emergency and non-emergency tasks. She joined the Counseling
Center as a Secretary in 2005. Mrs. Weiss assists students with making
appointments and with psychological testing. Billie enjoys being part
of the Lafayette Community as well as maintaining a safe and healthy
lifestyle.
Amanda L. Johnson, Psy.D., Staff Psychologist
Mandy Johnson received her B.S. in Psychology from the Pennsylvania State University and her M.A. and Psy.D. in Psychology from Widener University. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at Delaware’s Division of Child Mental Health Services and Widener University’s Counseling Center and her post-doctoral internship at Lafayette’s Counseling Center. She enjoys working collaboratively with students to discover their strengths and to work through their problems and concerns. Dr. Johnson is a licensed psychologist and a certified school psychologist in Pennsylvania.
Dan Isenberg, B.S.,Doctoral Practicum Student
Dan Isenberg received his B.S. in psychology and criminology/criminal justice at the University of Maryland, College Park and is currently in his third year of doctoral study in Lehigh University’s counseling psychology program. Dan believes everyone can benefit from having a supportive and challenging ear in their corner, and that the counseling relationship is unique and like no other relationship in a person’s life. He sees counseling as an opportunity for personal growth and change, particularly in the areas of self worth and interpersonal connection. Dan’s research and counseling interests include multicultural and social justice, and existential and meaning-of-life issues, as well as counselor learning and training.
Kristin E. Mehr, M.Ed., Doctoral Practicum Student
Kristin received her B.A. in Psychology from Loyola College in Maryland
and
received her M.Ed. in Counseling and Human Services from Lehigh
University.
She is currently in her fourth year of the doctoral program in
Counseling
Psychology at Lehigh University. Kristin believes counseling is a
collaborative process through which students can develop solutions for
their
personal concerns. She views counseling as a place for students to
better
understand aspects of themselves, enhance their existing strengths, and
explore their interpersonal relationships. Kristin's research and
practical
interests include college counseling, psychotherapy supervision, and
various
multicultural issues.
