Sandy Culver brings 20 years of rowing experience to her position as co-head coach, beginning at Flagler College in St. Augustine, FL. After messing about in open-water boats in San Francisco and other areas, Sandy discovered, many years later, that not only had the hatchet blade been invented but that racing in fast shells was pretty fun. She rowed on a competitive sweep team in Chicago before joining Trish on a mission to find their athletic best in the lightweight 2x. Sandy has also coached and taught sweep rowing and sculling in Chicago and Phoenix.
Trish and Sandy competed in the lightweight women’s 2x together; their athletic accomplishments include twice winning USRowing’s national championship in the senior lightweight 2x, placing in the elite light 2x, and competing in the USRowing trials for the 2003 Pan American and 2004 Olympic Games. Both freelance writers and editors, Trish and Sandy are currently managing a nation-wide project to create the first comprehensive book and film on the history of American rowing.
