Engineering Studies

This program presents an unusual opportunity to obtain a strong technical education within the context of a broad liberal arts curriculum. Engineering courses are combined with courses in the social sciences and the humanities. The program is grounded in mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering science with upper-level courses drawn from traditional engineering disciplines, engineering management, and engineering and public policy.

Students in the engineering studies program are planning for careers in engineering management, industrial or information systems management, environmental policy, energy policy, transportation policy, law, architecture, medicine, and other fields in which their technical background is a recognized asset.

The first year of the engineering studies curriculum is identical to the bachelor of science engineering programs. In the second year the programs begin to differ, with engineering studies students taking courses in engineering economics, management, and policy. The engineering studies curriculum is more flexible than a B.S. program, allowing the opportunity to select and combine technical and non-technical courses to meet personal and career goals. All engineering studies students have access to the same labs with modern equipment used by students in the B.S. engineering programs.
