Former Lafayette football great appreciates Alumni Online Community
Frank Baur ’90 called plenty of audibles during his illustrious gridiron career at Lafayette. Now the former Heisman trophy hopeful is a doctor of audiology and owner of Amplified Hearing LLC in Bethlehem.
The standout quarterback—whose picture appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated as a Heisman candidate going into his senior year before arm woes halted his bid—also is used to running an offense, which has translated well to life off of the gridiron. Baur tests hearing and fits amplification devices while running all aspects of his business, from clinical work to management, including marketing, billing, and more.
Lafayette remains a large part of his life.
“My fondest memories of Lafayette are the people that I went through college with,” says Baur, who was a member of the Alumni Council’s executive board for three years and attends many Maroon Club events. “I was a member of Zeta Psi fraternity and played on the football team and had the opportunity to make many great friends.”
One of the ways he stays connected with his friends is though Lafayette’s Alumni Online Community.
“I joined the online community to have a way to get in touch with people I did not know how to contact after leaving school,” Baur notes. “Also, I joined as a way for people to see what I am doing and to have a chance to find me. Every once in a while, I send out a batch of emails to old acquaintances and it is great to hear back from them with updates.”
He says the online community’s directory is helpful because it provides all of the contact information in one place.
Baur offers the following advice to fellow alums: “There is no reason not to register for the Alumni Online Community. Contact whoever you want, whenever you want, put up as much or as little personal information as possible. There are people online who want to contact you just to say hello.”
