Claudia Rinciog ’10, has published research she worked on with Steven Mylon, assistant professor of chemistry, in the national chemistry journal Langmuir. The article addresses the difficulty of disinfecting water supplies that are contaminated with a bacteria-eating virus.
Rinciog, who is a double major in biochemistry and economics & business,
and Mylon studied the virus MS2, which can be found in aquatic environments and can act as a disease carrier. Because it is the size of a nanoparticle, the virus poses a great challenge to purifying water supplies. The objective of the project was to understand more about the virus’ stability.
