Organizational Changes Made in Athletics and ITS

President Daniel H. Weiss sent the following campus-wide email today about changes in the Department of Athletics and Information Technology Services:

I am writing to inform you of organizational changes affecting several divisions of the College.

Effective immediately, the Department of Athletics will report to Vice President Jim Dicker ’85 in the Division of Development and College Relations. With this restructuring, Athletics will continue to maintain strong and vital ties with the Division of Campus Life. Director of Athletics Bruce McCutcheon will work closely with Vice President Celestino Limas and will participate as a member of Celestino’s senior team. Development and College Relations will now have four areas of responsibility. Career Services and Athletics center on supporting students, while Development and Alumni Affairs focus on enhancing the College’s relationships with external constituents, most notably alumni.

Athletics has reported to Jim Krivoski, Executive Assistant to the President and Administrative Secretary to the Board of Trustees, who retained that oversight when he joined my office last year after serving 11 years as chief student affairs officer. In addition to his responsibilities with the President’s Office and the Board, Jim will continue to oversee the Williams Center and will provide primary leadership in supporting the College’s work with the City of Easton.

In a second major change, Information Technology Services will become a separate operating unit within the College that will report to me under the direction of John O’Keefe ’96, who assumes the title Associate Vice President and Chief Information Officer. In this new role, John will continue to oversee academic technology and network services as well as administrative information systems. The realignment will enable ITS to better support and serve the technology needs of all divisions of the College while maintaining its primary focus on advancing our academic mission. It is designed to assure greater integration of technology and increase its strategic importance at the College. In his new role, John will maintain a close working relationship with Provost Wendy Hill in the Academic Division and will serve as a member of Provost’s Council. In addition, John will also work closely with Mitch Wein, Vice President for Finance and Administration, and serve as a member of his senior management team.

I would like to express my thanks to Neil McElroy, now Dean of Libraries, who has served admirably during the past six years as Dean of Libraries and Information Technology. Under Neil’s direction, ITS has made exceptional progress in serving the needs of our community, strengthening our infrastructure and technology resources, fostering innovation and collaboration, and mentoring a team of talented professionals. John will maintain a close working relationship with Neil as part of his ongoing commitment to the Academic Division and the Libraries.

These organizational changes are intended to help us advance our strategic and academic objectives through a more integrative approach to management designed to create new connections among the different areas of the College.
